Dosage Guide

Dosage Guide

Every recipe on Bubbs Kitchen shows an estimated THC content in milligrams. This guide explains how to read those numbers and how to consume cannabis-infused edibles and topicals safely.

Reading your results

The dosage calculator and each recipe report three related values:

  • Total THC (mg)

The full amount of THC available in the entire infused base. This is the theoretical maximum — your body won't absorb all of it.

  • THC per teaspoon (mg)

How many milligrams are in one teaspoon of the infused base. Use this to measure out a known dose when mixing into recipes or applying topicals.

  • Servings

How many portions the recipe is divided into. Divide total THC by servings to estimate the milligrams per finished portion.

These are estimates. Decarboxylation efficiency, strain variability, and how fats bind cannabinoids all affect actual potency — always treat the number as an upper bound.

Finding your dose

Beginner

1–2.5 mg

Best for first-time users. Noticeable but gentle effects.

Standard

2.5–5 mg

A common recreational dose for regular consumers.

Experienced

5–10 mg

Stronger effects. Only for tolerant users.

High

10 mg+

Intense and long-lasting. Approach with caution.

If you're new to edibles, start with 1–2.5 mg and wait a full two hours before considering more. You can always take more — you can't take less.

Edibles vs. topicals

Edibles are processed by the liver, which converts THC into 11-hydroxy-THC — more potent and longer lasting than inhaled cannabis. Effects can take 30 minutes to 2 hours to appear and may last 4–8 hours.

Topicals are absorbed through the skin and typically don't reach the bloodstream, so they rarely produce a psychoactive high. They're used for localized relief. The mg/tsp figure still helps you gauge concentration when applying.

Safety guidelines

  • Start low and go slow. Wait at least 2 hours before taking more of an edible.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery after consuming edibles.
  • Store infused products securely, away from children and pets. Clearly label anything homemade.
  • Avoid mixing with alcohol or other substances — effects can compound unpredictably.
  • Consult a healthcare provider if you take medications or have underlying conditions.
  • Do not consume if pregnant, breastfeeding, or under the legal age in your jurisdiction.
